Harlow Excellence Cluster Report on Literacy Project 2005/06 Summer Term 2006
In the summer of 2003 ten schools in the Harlow South Cluster Group obtained funding under the Government’s Promotion of Excellence in schools scheme.
One of the activities of focus was to consider ways in which creative activities such and Music, Art, Dance and Drama could be used to develop children’s writing.
This report provides an overview of the progress made during the third year of the project.

Stanley Schools Literacy Goes MADD Project Spring Term 2006
Conclusions:
There is clear evidence that the Boys from both year 1 and 5 have made good progress in their writing attainments.
They show clear evidence that the work with the Literacy Goes MADD has motivated their interest in writing which was not reflected in the primary survey.
From the interviews there was a high level of interest and motivation to write conveyed through their comments about their project work.
It was clear from the interviews with the boys of year 5 that they had developed a sense of self confidence as writers and an enthusiasm for writing which had not been identified in the primary survey.
All boys interviewed expressed an enthusiasm and enjoyment for the project materials and activities
Teachers’ comments were positive about the project and they recognised the impact it had had upon the boys approach and enthusiasm for writing.

Harlow Excellence Partnership ‘Literacy Goes MADD’ Project - Spring Term 2006
The following report is a follow-up to the 2005 report based on interviews with sixty children involved in a Literact Goes MADD project
during two days of visits to seven schools.
Throughout all the interviews there was a very genuine sense of enthusiasm and excitement about the project.
All groups stressed the importance they attached to the fun they had experienced and the sense of achievement they had gained.
Many referring to the positive comments they had received from their teachers and the high groups to which they had moved.

Report of visit to Wingate Infants School - Literacy Goes MADD Pilot Project Spring Term 2005
The purpose of the visit was to meet with a group of children from year 2 to talk about
the work they had completed using the ‘Literacy Goes MADD’ resources. The discussions
took place in two groups. The first group consisted of two girls and three boys,
and the second group consisted of two girls and two boys.
At the beginning of the discussions the children read their ‘Seaside’ story.

North West Rotherham EiC Action Zone - Literacy Goes MADD Project Spring Term 2005
The NW Rotherham EiC Action Zone consists of ten schools collaborating under the Government’s Promotion
of Excellence in schools scheme. One of their activities of focus was to consider ways in which creative
activities such and Music, Art, Dance and Drama could be used to develop children’s writing.
This report provides an overview of the progress made during the Spring term 2005 project.
Aim of the Project:
To study what the impact of creative activities such as Music, Art, Dance and Drama could have
in the development of children’s writing. Special note would be taken to study the impact of
the activities on Gender differences.

Bromley Beacon Schools - Report on Beacon School project with Bromley Schools’ in Cluster Group 8
St Mark’s CE Primary School, Bromley, Kent gained Beacon status in September 2001. To promote the sharing of good
practice in the pursuit of improving standards of achievement in schools the Cluster Group 8 Literacy Project has
been developed.
In the Spring Term 2002 it was agreed by the Cluster Group 8, of which St Mark’s CE Primary School is a member,
to consider ways in which creative activities could be used to develop children’s writing.
This report provides an overview of the progress made to date.
